Experience outstanding nature in just one day. It has been named Iceland in Miniature as it displays sample of all the most magnificent landscapes found on our island plus the charming villages and friendly people. Volcano and glacier Snæfellsjökull, 1446 m, is regarded as one of the symbols of Iceland. It is the highest mountain on the peninsula and has a glacier at its peak (you didn´t know a glacier could also be a volcano? no wonder they call it land of ice and fire). The glacier can be seen on clear days from Reykjavík, in a distance of about 120 km, easily recognizable because of its two peaks. The glacier is also known as the setting of the novel Journey to the Center of the Earth by the French author Jules Verne.
The area surrounding glacier Snæfellsjökull is one of the four National Parks of Iceland. You will see stretches of lava fields, exceptional lava formations, amazing gorges and waterfalls, lovely towns and harbors.
The route includes locations such as:
The magnificent mount Kirkjufell, a famous landmark in Snæfellsnes,
Búðir where the pitch black lava meets the golden sands on the beach,
Arnarstapi and its beautiful cliff formations and harbour,
Hellnar the magical beach and rock formations,
The “Ogre” at Lóndrangar which are two ancient volcanic plugs 60 m and 75 m high.
We might even get lucky and see whales playing in the ocean from the beaches of Arnarstapi and Hellnar.
It is popular to extend Snæfellsnes peninsula Photo Tour to a Multi-Day tour for 2-3 days as the peninsula offers a wide range of sights and footage.
